Equine Assisted Occupational Therapy Intervention involves the use of the horse to help children develop social, emotional, cognitive, sensory and motor skills. The overall goal is to increase the child’s independence in activities of daily living.
Equine assisted occupational therapy intervention follows the same process as traditional OT intervention. A thorough OT ASSESSMENT is completed, GOALS are set, INTERVENTION begins. Intervention is completed outdoors in a secure sand arena instead of in the traditional clinic setting. #equineassitedoccupationaltherapy #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #onlineoccupationaltherapy #childdevelopment #infantdevelopment #grossmotorskills #finemotorskills #sensoryprocessing #sensoryintegration

The scenes above are not abnormal; children digging, cups with stones in them, babies kicking their legs and moving their arms. All part of growing up, all part of normal childhood experiences.
A question that has come up in the pre-crawlers classes is “do you think every child needs to see an OT”. My answer is most definitely NO. If a child is managing to explore their world with ease and are functioning well throughout the day then they have no business seeing an OT. Remember everyone’s “functioning independently” is different… but if it’s not broken, why fix it? When a child is having a tough time exploring the world around them and are struggling with their functional independence, that is when and OT assessment could be beneficial. Praxis is the ability to learn and preform a novel activity. Praxis consists of three elements - children (and adults) can have difficulty in any one of these areas ... Or all three!
1).Ideation which leads to initiation 2).Motor plan 3). Execution Praxis is learned through exposure and development. Remember, everything is novel to the newborn baby so give them time. Children with praxis issues can have difficulty learning to roll, learning to crawl, learning to use their imagination in play, learning to tie their shoe laces, button their shirt, sequence their washing routine, follow complex instructions, organise their books at school, learn to write etc. If you feel your child is having difficulty with any or all of the areas of praxis, then a Paediatric Occupational Therapist can help. #praxis #sensoryintegration #babymassageireland #childdevelopment #infantdevelopment #infantmassage #bonding #play #parentning #parentinggroups What age is the best age for baby massage classes? The most common question I get asked.
There is no age limit on starting baby massage. However, if your baby has any medical issues, diagnosis, special requirements or are on any precautions or medication let me know before starting the classes so I can make the necessary adaptations for your baby’s needs. I always say the earlier the better❤️ Starting early has many many many advantages. But remember you need to be ready to take in the information too. So take your time and start the classes when you feel ready and up to it. 👶0-8 week olds tend to sleep for most of the class which is fine, you have the tools to use at home as and when they are happy to engage. 1️⃣2️⃣12 weeks plus are pretty interactive and you get all the chats during the massage class ❤️ 🦀The crawlers are busy busy busy exploring their environment and they don’t tend to tolerate much of a massage before they are on the move again, but we adapt to suit their needs. As with the tiny newborns, you have the tools to use at home as and when. Never too young never too old and once you learn the tools you will use it well on into their school years. |
