Equine Assisted Occupational Therapy Intervention
Equine assisted Occupational Therapy (E.A.OT) is a form of occupational therapy intervention that uses the horse and the environment to meet therapeutic goals as designed by an Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapist must provide sound clinical reasoning for the use of horses in therapy, and this must be used in conjunction with an overall therapy plan. The intervention can help increase a child’s independence in activities of daily living. E.A.OT works on areas of development such as motor skills, sensory processing, social skills, play skills, self-care skills and emotional regulation.
