The scenes above are not abnormal; children digging, cups with stones in them, babies kicking their legs and moving their arms. All part of growing up, all part of normal childhood experiences.
A question that has come up in the pre-crawlers classes is “do you think every child needs to see an OT”. My answer is most definitely NO. If a child is managing to explore their world with ease and are functioning well throughout the day then they have no business seeing an OT. Remember everyone’s “functioning independently” is different… but if it’s not broken, why fix it? When a child is having a tough time exploring the world around them and are struggling with their functional independence, that is when and OT assessment could be beneficial.
